Otto Lindpaintner

Otto (Thomas Erich) Lindpaintner graduated from the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich in 1903. In the summer of 1904 he studied at the philosophical faculty of the University of Munich, then went on to study medicine. He was the 10th Pilot in Germnay to pass the Flying Examination in 1910. Between 1910 and 1914 he won numerous prizes in various of his own flying machines - on 7th August 1910 flying his Sommer biplane, he flew in the Circuit de l'Est which was a long distance circular race from Paris in a counterclockwise route right to the borders of Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium and back again. He also took third prize at the 'Saxon Sightseeing Flight' in May 1911. He was the Winner of the Aviation award of the German War Ministry in an aircraft during the Berlin Aviation Week in Berlin - Johannisthal which was held between 9th and 16th October 1910. In 1914, he had to give up flying when his physical examination to join the German military revealed a disturbance in his sense of balance. He then devoted himself to car racing and later worked as a doctor. Otto Lindpaintner died on 22nd July 1976 aged 81 and is buried in Munich.
