Blue Streak by Ivan Berryman. (P) Supermarine Swift F.4 WK198 flown by Lt Cmdr Mike Lithgow setting a new World Air Speed Record on 26th September 1953, averaging 737.3mph over a series of four runs above the desert of Castel Idris, Libya. The airframe of this important piece of British aviation history has been rescued from a scrap yard by the Brooklands Museum and it is hoped that WK198 might one day be restored to static display condition. |
